The Journey

The Amalfi Silence is a private yacht journey composed for those who have seen the Amalfi Coast and wish, this time, to hear it. We board at Positano at first light and navigate south by a 42-foot wooden ketch, anchoring in coves accessible only by sea. The itinerary is built around private access — a fjord at Furore invisible from the road, a shepherd's path to Ravello, lemon groves above Minori cultivated since 1891, a Capri morning before the day-trippers arrive. Meals are prepared aboard or in the homes of families whose kitchens have not changed in forty years.

The Journey, in Detail
01

The Idea

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most familiar coastlines in Europe. By car, it is also one of the most difficult to enjoy — a single road cut into a vertical limestone cliff, a road that, in season, moves at the pace of a procession. The Amalfi Silence is composed for those who would like to experience this coast at the pace, and from the perspective, it was originally seen — from the water. The journey is built entirely around a private 42-foot wooden ketch, navigated by a Neapolitan skipper whose family has fished these waters for four generations. From the deck, the coast becomes again what it was for two thousand years before the road: a sequence of villages reached by sea, each one entirely different.

02

The Vessel

The ketch — a 1968 Sangermani built in Lavagna and restored in 2018 — accommodates up to six guests in three private cabins of bouclé and oiled teak. There is no engine noise; the boat sails almost exclusively under canvas, with auxiliary power used only for harbour entries. The galley, run by a chef who has worked for two of the most discreet houses in Capri, composes meals around the morning catch and a daily call to a vegetable supplier in Salerno. Lunches are taken at anchor, often in the water itself; dinners, if you wish, are served on a private terrace in a small cliffside village arranged in advance.

03

Private Access

The journey is built around a series of arrangements that are not available on commercial bookings: a sunrise opening of the Fjord of Furore reserved for our anchorage; a private guided ascent to Ravello by the shepherd's path of the Valle delle Ferriere; a morning in the lemon grove of a 1891 family farm above Minori, where lunch is served by the farmer's grandmother on a table older than the road below; a 6 a.m. ferry to Capri to walk the gardens of Villa Lysis before the island fills. None of these is a queue-jumping arrangement; each has been negotiated, slowly, over time.

04

The Pace

The itinerary holds eight days but is engineered to feel like fourteen. There are no transit stresses, no luggage between hotels, no checking in or out. Every morning begins at anchor; every afternoon contains the option of doing nothing. This is the structural difference between the Amalfi Silence and almost every other coastal itinerary in this part of Italy. We do not move to see; we move because the next stillness is two hours further south.
